Mythology of Easy Twist
Long ago, in the foothills of the Himalayas, there lived an elderly sage who was known not for speaking many words, but for carrying great peace wherever he went. People often asked him the secret to living with such calmness.
Instead of answering, the sage would sit quietly each morning as the sun rose. He would lengthen his spine toward the sky and gently turn his body first to one side, then to the other, moving slowly with his breath.
A young student finally asked, "Master, why do you twist each day?"
The sage smiled and replied,
"The river stays clear because it keeps flowing. The tree stays strong because it bends with the wind. The heart stays light because it learns to let go."
As he gently twisted, he imagined releasing yesterday's worries with one breath and welcoming today's possibilities with the next.
The student realized that the twist was not about turning the body, t was about turning toward wisdom, releasing what was no longer needed, and making space for new beginnings.
Since then, yogis have practiced Easy Twist as a reminder that every new day is an opportunity to let go, renew, and begin again.

How to Do Easy Twist
Sit comfortably on the floor in a cross-legged position or with legs extended.
Lengthen the spine and relax the shoulders.
Place the right hand behind you on the floor.
Bring the left hand to the right knee or thigh.
Inhale to lift and lengthen the spine.
Exhale gently twist the torso to the right from the waist upward.
Keep both sitting bones grounded evenly.
Hold for 5–8 slow breaths, then release and repeat on the other side.

Variations of Easy Twist
Chair Twist
Sit sideways on a chair and twist toward the back of the chair for support.
Supported Twist
Sit on a folded blanket or bolster to help keep the spine upright.
Open Twist
Keep the lower hand on the opposite knee without deep rotation for a softer variation.
Bound Twist
Wrap the opposite arm around the knee for a deeper spinal rotation.
Reclined Twist
Lie on the back and allow knees to fall to one side for a restorative version.

Benefits of Easy Twist
Improves spinal mobility and posture
Relieves tension in the back and shoulders
Stimulates digestion and circulation
Encourages detoxification through gentle compression
Calms the nervous system
Improves body awareness and breath connection

Disclaimer
Avoid deep twisting if you have spinal injuries, herniated discs, or recent abdominal surgery.
Pregnant practitioners should practice open twists instead of closed twists.
Move gently and avoid forcing the rotation.
Keep the spine long to prevent compression in the lower back.

Relationship of This Posture to Well-Being
Easy Twist reminds us that healing often begins by letting go. As the body gently rotates, we symbolically release physical tension, emotional heaviness, and stagnant energy. The pose encourages flexibility not only in the spine but also in the mind, helping us move through life with greater openness, clarity, and ease.

Affirmation for Easy Twist
“I release what no longer serves me and welcome clarity, balance, and renewal.”

Closing Thought
Easy Twist reminds us that life is always changing. By staying flexible in both body and mind, we discover the freedom to grow, heal, and move forward with an open heart.
